Alex Marquez admits he feels “honored” to fight his brother Marc Marquez for the 2025 MotoGP world championship, even though he believes it’s impossible to beat him at his best.
The Gresini rider has been Marc’s closest title challenger this season, claiming Grand Prix wins at Jerez and Catalunya. However, Marc Marquez has been untouchable — taking 11 Grand Prix victories and 14 Sprint wins to seal his seventh world championship at round 17 of 22.
Alex’s title hopes faded with costly crashes at Assen and Brno, but he insists even a flawless season wouldn’t have been enough.
“I think even in a perfect situation, it’s not possible to beat Marc or win the title,” Alex said. “He’s broken all the records and set new standards. You can’t win against someone like that — it’s how it is.”
“I don’t feel like I lost to my brother. When you lose against one of the greatest riders in history, it’s the opposite — it’s an honor to have fought against him.”
Alex currently sits second in the championship, 88 points clear of Francesco Bagnaia after a podium at Mandalika. He can secure runner-up honors in Australia if he maintains a lead of 111 points.
The Mandalika weekend also saw Alex Marquez named the best independent rider of the 2025 MotoGP season.
