Alex Marquez likely to stay at Gresini as VR46 target Fermin Aldeguer for 2027

Ducati’s MotoGP line-up could look very different by the 2027 season, with several riders potentially switching teams as the rider market begins to take shape.

However, Alex Marquez appears set to remain with Gresini. The 29-year-old is heading into his fourth season with the Italian satellite team after enjoying the strongest campaign of his MotoGP career.

Marquez claimed three race wins in 2025, the first of his premier-class career, along with 12 podium finishes. He ended the season as championship runner-up behind his brother Marc, and with a factory-spec Ducati at his disposal, he could emerge as a genuine title contender.

While some may assume that riding factory machinery places him in contention for a future seat with Ducati’s works team, especially amid Francesco Bagnaia’s struggles, Marquez is understood to be content with his current situation. He has no immediate focus on moving to the Bologna-based factory squad.

Gresini has provided Marquez with the environment, support and tools needed to rebuild his career following a difficult spell at Honda. As discussions around the 2027 MotoGP rider market begin to surface, indications suggest Marquez is likely to continue with Gresini.

Meanwhile, VR46 is reportedly keeping a close eye on Fermin Aldeguer, raising the possibility of a new team-mate for Marquez should changes occur elsewhere in Ducati’s rider structure.
