Alex Marquez: MotoGP Runner-Up Matters More to Others Than to Me

Alex Marquez says finishing runner-up in the 2025 MotoGP standings means more to others than to himself, as he already knows what he is capable of.

The 29-year-old enjoyed the strongest season of his premier-class career in 2025, taking three grand prix victories with Gresini Ducati. His consistent form saw him regularly challenge world champion Marc Marquez and secure a historic second place in the championship.

While this marked his best MotoGP result to date, Alex Marquez explained that he personally values it on the same level as his Moto3 title in 2014 and Moto2 championship in 2019. However, he admits public perception places greater weight on success in MotoGP.

He believes that performing at the front in the premier class is often seen as the final proof of talent, especially after several difficult seasons with Honda and an inconsistent first year with Gresini. For him, the 2025 campaign was important in confirming that he belongs among the top riders in MotoGP.

Alex Marquez’s performances on year-old machinery convinced Ducati to promote him to factory-spec equipment for the 2026 season. Gresini also enjoyed a successful year overall, with rookie Fermin Aldeguer claiming his first MotoGP win in Indonesia.
