Alex Marquez admitted he was overcome with emotion once again while watching a replay of his first-ever MotoGP victory at Jerez, choosing to watch it alone to relive the moment privately.
“Yeah, I watched the race alone,” Marquez said during the pre-event press conference at Le Mans. “The emotions were still there. When I saw myself crying, I started crying again on the sofa. So it’s better to watch it alone.”
Despite the career milestone and his rise to the top of the MotoGP standings—just one point ahead of his brother Marc—Alex insists that the win hasn’t changed his mindset or daily routine.
“I don’t feel any different. Life is the same. You still need to train, go to the gym, go cycling. A win doesn’t change that,” he said. “The mentality and approach for this weekend remains the same. We’ll give 100% like we did in Jerez, stay focused, and keep working.”
While Alex leads the title race after six rounds, he emphasized the importance of staying grounded. “We enjoy the moment, but there are many races to go. We need to keep pushing.”
With Ducati having won the past five French Grands Prix, each with a different rider, Alex is hopeful of continuing that streak.
“We hope it will be a sixth win with a new name. That’s the goal. But as I said, we go race by race.”
Alex also acknowledged Marc’s continued performance edge: “Marc is still half a step ahead. He made two race mistakes, but in terms of pure performance, he’s faster. We need to keep improving.”
KTM rider Maverick Vinales weighed in on Alex’s title chances, saying: “It will depend on how much he believes he can do it.”
