Alex Marquez is determined to secure his first win of the 2025 MotoGP season after finishing second in both opening rounds. The Gresini Racing rider now sets his sights on the MotoGP Americas title at the Circuit of the Americas (COTA) in Austin, from March 28-30, 2025.
At the recent MotoGP Argentina at the Termas de Río Hondo Circuit, Alex delivered a strong performance, finishing second in both the Sprint Race and the main race, trailing behind his older brother, Marc Marquez.
“I know where I’m stronger and where I need to improve compared to Marc, but we gave it our best,” Alex said on Tuesday.
With four consecutive runner-up finishes, Alex holds second place in the championship standings with 58 points. His consistent form boosts his confidence heading into the COTA race, despite his challenging history at the track. Notably, in 2023, Alex crashed after vomiting inside his helmet during the seventh lap. However, his recent performances give him hope for a breakthrough in Austin.
Marc Marquez has also acknowledged his younger brother’s growing competitiveness, considering Alex a serious contender for the world title.
“Alex will win multiple races this year,” Marc told Motorsport on Monday. “When he’s confident, he’s capable of becoming world champion—just like he did in Moto3 and Moto2. He’s my main rival for the title this season.”
Alex has already proven to be a threat to his brother, challenging Marc’s lead in both Thailand and Argentina. In Argentina, Alex briefly overtook Marc on lap 11 before the six-time world champion reclaimed the lead on lap 18. Notably, from lap 4 to lap 22, Alex clocked the fastest lap times.
Marc praised his brother’s riding style, saying, “I was impressed with how smooth and controlled Alex was through the corners today.”
Alex’s consistent podium finishes have also earned recognition beyond the track. Rommy Averdy Saat, Market Development General Manager at PT ExxonMobil Lubricants Indonesia (PT EMLI), commended his performance.
“Alex Marquez is becoming more mature and consistent in delivering podium finishes. We hope to see him claim a victory this season,” Rommy said.
The rivalry between the Marquez brothers could make MotoGP history as they battle for the world championship. Their next showdown will take place at the MotoGP United States in Austin, where Alex will aim to claim his first win of the season.
