Alex Marquez to attempt MotoGP return at Sachsenring after Assen injury

Gresini Ducati has officially confirmed that Alex Marquez will head to the Sachsenring and undergo a medical assessment on Thursday to determine his fitness for this weekend’s German MotoGP.

The Spaniard sustained a fracture to the metacarpal in his left hand following a crash during the Dutch Grand Prix at Assen, caused by contact with Pedro Acosta. The incident occurred when Acosta’s knee nudged Marquez’s front brake lever mid-acceleration, causing the front tyre to lock up and sending Marquez to the ground.

Despite the injury, Marquez is eager to ride, though the left-hand circuit layout of the Sachsenring—with seven consecutive left corners—poses a unique physical challenge for his recovery.

Marquez currently sits second in the MotoGP standings, 68 points behind his brother Marc Marquez, and 58 ahead of Francesco Bagnaia. He claimed third place at the German GP last year and is aiming to stay in contention if declared fit to race in Friday’s FP1 session.
