Alex Marquez’s mental strength forged through years of MotoGP “suffering” in training with Marc

Marc Marquez believes his younger brother Alex’s mental toughness — showcased in his Catalan Grand Prix victory — stems from the years of “suffering” he endured while training alongside him.

Alex, now enjoying his best-ever MotoGP campaign with Gresini and sitting second in the standings, bounced back from a sprint crash in Barcelona to resist relentless pressure from Marc and end his brother’s streak of seven straight grand prix wins.

Marc explained that their long history of training together played a decisive role in shaping Alex’s resilience.

“For him, he’s super strong on the mental side because he was training all his life with me and I was three years older,” said the factory Ducati rider. “I was always faster than him. So when you’re young, he was suffering more — in cycling, in the gym, doing the same training as me at a younger age.”

That dynamic, Marc said, forced Alex to dig deeper than most, sharpening his ability to handle adversity on and off the bike.

“Now everything is more equal, and we have a super good relationship, tighter than ever. I want the best for him, he wants the best for me,” Marc added.

With seven races to go, the Marquez brothers sit first and second in the world championship — a unique moment in MotoGP history.

“It’s amazing, something that’s never happened before, and it will be difficult to repeat in the future,” Marc said.
