Amorim: “We’re in a Rush” to Restore Man Utd Glory, Not Dreaming of Titles Yet

Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has dismissed any talk of a Premier League title challenge next season, calling it “crazy” to think they’re ready. However, the Portuguese boss made it clear—he’s in a rush to turn things around at Old Trafford.

Since Amorim’s arrival, United have only collected 22 points from 19 games, placing them 13th in the table and a staggering 36 points behind leaders Liverpool, who are chasing a record-equalling 20th title.

While United’s co-owners Ineos have a long-term target of winning the club’s 21st title by their 150th anniversary in 2028, Amorim is demanding faster progress.

“I’m not saying we’ll win the title next year—I’m not crazy,” said Amorim on Friday.
“But I also don’t want to hear people say we need years to get there. We’re in a rush. We’re working hard now to make next year much better.”

United haven’t lifted the Premier League trophy since Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement in 2013. While Ferguson endured a slow start before leading the club to legendary success, Amorim believes modern football doesn’t allow the same level of patience.

“People say Sir Alex took three or four years, but that’s not possible today. The pressure is different—you have to speak three times and give three interviews before every match.”

Amorim has already delivered one high point—beating Manchester City in December. A win in Sunday’s derby would complete United’s first league double over City since the 2019/20 season.

There’s positive news for United fans as youngster Kobbie Mainoo could return after two months out, though Matthijs de Ligt remains a doubt after picking up an injury in the loss to Nottingham Forest midweek.
