Kimi Antonelli’s remarkable start to the 2026 Formula 1 season has not only propelled him to the top of the Drivers’ Championship but has also caused a significant shift in the betting markets. Initially viewed as an outsider, the Italian teenager is now considered one of the leading contenders for the title.
Entering the season, bookmakers had placed Antonelli as the fifth favorite to win the championship, reflecting both his youth and limited experience at the highest level of motorsport. However, his impressive performances over the first three races have quickly rewritten expectations. After securing a second-place finish behind Mercedes teammate George Russell in the season opener in Australia, Antonelli’s odds shortened to 6/1 (7.00, +600). His momentum continued with a breakthrough victory in China, making him the second teenager in F1 history to win a Grand Prix, which further reduced his title odds to 9/2 (5.50, +450).
Antonelli’s winning streak continued in Japan, where he claimed his second consecutive victory, prompting bookmakers to slash his odds again—now just 11/10 (2.10, +110) to win the 2026 Drivers’ Championship. His race odds have seen similar movement, from 8/1 (9.00, +800) in Australia, to 6/1 (7.00, +600) in Shanghai, and 11/5 (3.20, +220) before Japan. As a result, he is now listed alongside George Russell as a co-favorite for victory in Miami, with odds no longer than 6/4 (2.50, +150).
Antonelli’s rise is not entirely unexpected for those who followed his rookie campaign, where he showed his potential by taking pole position for the Sprint in Miami and securing podium finishes in Canada, Singapore, and Las Vegas. However, his leap in consistency and performance this season is noteworthy. Despite an early setback with a crash in final practice at the Australian Grand Prix, Antonelli has demonstrated maturity on race day, finishing second, first, and first in the opening rounds.
His junior career experience is also proving valuable. Antonelli has previously won at several key circuits in Formula 4 and Formula 2, including Yas Marina, Spa, Monza, Zandvoort, Silverstone, and Hungary. His adaptability across track types is becoming evident as he continues to excel in his sophomore F1 season. Notably, he delivered a strong performance in Brazil last year, securing second place in both Sprint and Grand Prix sessions.
With a more competitive Mercedes beneath him this season, Antonelli’s confidence and composure suggest he is ready to take on the sport’s established stars. As the F1 calendar heads towards circuits where he has enjoyed past success, many in the betting community will be monitoring Antonelli closely as a serious title contender for the remainder of the 2026 season.
