Aprilia Racing team manager Paolo Bonora has offered fresh hope for a resurgence in form, revealing the team is developing key upgrades aimed at unlocking Marco Bezzecchi’s full potential aboard the RS-GP.
Despite a breakthrough win at the British GP in Silverstone, Aprilia has struggled to maintain consistency throughout the 2025 MotoGP season. The situation has been compounded by the long-term injury absence of reigning world champion Jorge Martin, placing the spotlight squarely on Bezzecchi.
Bezzecchi’s most recent outing at MotoGP Aragon 2025 was hampered by a qualifying crash that relegated him to a lowly 21st on the grid. He recovered to finish eighth in both the sprint and the main race, but the results fell short of Aprilia’s expectations.
However, a post-race private test at Aragon provided much-needed encouragement. Bezzecchi set the second-fastest time overall, thanks in part to new electronics settings and aerodynamic tweaks trialed during the session.
“We were focused on the time attack of Marco,” Bonora told MotoGP.com. “We put in place a lot of things, on the electronics side in particular, to manage better the acceleration phase and make the bike more stable.”
Acceleration and traction out of corners — long cited as weak points for Aprilia — are now front and center in the development roadmap.
Additionally, Aprilia debuted a new front fairing, which Bonora suggests will likely be introduced in races later this season.
“We also tested something related to the aerodynamics. It seems to be good. We have to test it with all the riders to get comments, but we’ll probably see it [used] during the second-half of the season.”
With Bezzecchi’s raw speed already apparent — particularly in his Silverstone victory and strong pace in time attack — Aprilia sees refining the RS-GP’s electronics and aero as the key to translating that potential into consistent podiums.
“To get the best of his talent we have to improve the acceleration phase,” Bonora added. “We’re fixing some things already, but there’s more to come.”
As Aprilia readies for the second leg of the 2025 season, all eyes will be on whether these technical evolutions can turn Bezzecchi into a regular front-runner — and salvage the title aspirations that once seemed within reach.
