Aprilia confirm Jorge Martin’s MotoGP test at Misano ahead of potential Brno return

Jorge Martin is set to make his long-awaited return to MotoGP machinery this Wednesday, July 9, as Aprilia announced he will test the RS-GP25 at Misano. This marks his first outing on a MotoGP bike since his crash at the Qatar Grand Prix in April, where he sustained multiple rib fractures and lung damage after being hit by Fabio di Giannantonio.

The private test is made possible thanks to a recent rule change allowing injured riders to test MotoGP bikes outside of race weekends. Martin had already returned to light riding last week, testing a Superbike at Barcelona—his first on-track action in over three months.

Martin’s 2025 campaign has been derailed by a series of injuries. He crashed during the first pre-season test in Sepang, then suffered further injuries in a Supermoto training accident just before the season opener in Thailand. His only race weekend this year was in Qatar, where he failed to score points after crashing in the main race.

Despite medical checks still showing incomplete healing of several rib fractures, Aprilia is preparing for a potential full return at the Czech Grand Prix in Brno on July 18–20. That race would be Martin’s final opportunity to compete before MotoGP enters its summer break.

The Misano test will be key in determining if Martin is fit to race in Brno, and it also comes amid ongoing contract tensions between the Spaniard and Aprilia over a disputed 2026 exit clause.
