Aprilia has officially confirmed that Jorge Martin will not take part in the upcoming Sepang MotoGP pre-season test after undergoing two revision surgeries in mid-December.
The reigning world champion endured a difficult 2025 campaign plagued by injuries, competing in only seven of the 22 races. Although Martin returned to action at the Valencia season finale last November, hopes of a smooth winter preparation have now been disrupted.
Following reports last week, Aprilia has confirmed that Martin recently underwent further surgery related to previous injuries. As a result, he will sit out next week’s three-day Sepang test as he continues his recovery programme.
Aprilia test rider Lorenzo Savadori will replace Martin in Malaysia. Savadori will take charge of development duties on the RS-GP26 across the official test, continuing work that is crucial ahead of the new season.
The team explained that Martin underwent procedures on his left scaphoid and right clavicle in December, with the decision taken to prioritise his full recovery and ensure he reaches peak physical condition for the season opener.
Although Martin will not be riding, he is still expected to travel to Malaysia and remain closely involved with the team, monitoring progress and development of the RS-GP26 throughout the test.
Savadori, who filled in for Martin during injury absences last season, said he faces a busy programme in Sepang, including work across multiple bikes and testing several new solutions. He stressed that while it is disappointing not to have Martin on track, the priority is ensuring the champion returns fully fit for the start of the season.
Savadori’s Sepang duties will begin this weekend during the three-day shakedown test.
