Aprilia keeps options open with multiple backup plans for 2027 MotoGP line-up

Aprilia CEO Massimo Rivola has confirmed the manufacturer is keeping several alternatives open as it explores the MotoGP rider market for Marco Bezzecchi’s team-mate in 2027.

Aprilia sparked early movement in the 2027 rider market this winter by announcing a new two-year contract extension for Bezzecchi ahead of the Sepang test. After finishing second in last season’s manufacturers’ standings, the Italian brand has become an attractive destination for top riders ahead of the new regulations.

The second factory seat is widely expected to be available, with reigning world champion Jorge Martin strongly linked to a potential move to Yamaha. While Rivola did not completely rule out keeping Martin, he made it clear that Aprilia is already preparing alternative options.

Speaking to the official MotoGP website, Rivola said Bezzecchi was the team’s main focus and securing him early was a key step. He praised the Italian rider’s commitment to the project, the team, and the development of the bike, calling it the ideal foundation for the future.

With its top priority settled, Rivola explained that Aprilia now has the freedom to assess the market and monitor how things develop. He added that Martin’s full potential on the Aprilia has yet to be seen, making the situation even more interesting, but stressed that the factory is always planning ahead with multiple scenarios in mind.

Several big names have been linked to Aprilia in recent months. Fabio Quartararo was one of them, although reports suggesting he had agreed to join Honda were later denied by the French rider, who admitted only that discussions are ongoing.

More recently, double world champion Pecco Bagnaia has emerged as another potential candidate. At the Sepang test, Bagnaia hinted that he has strong opportunities available, with widespread reports suggesting Ducati’s 2027 factory line-up could feature Marc Marquez and Pedro Acosta, leaving Bagnaia’s future uncertain.
