A new BBC documentary is set to shine a spotlight on the unforgettable and contentious 2007 Formula 1 World Championship—a year packed with on-track drama, off-track scandals, and a title fight that went down to the wire.
The 2007 season is famous for launching Lewis Hamilton’s F1 career as he went head-to-head with his McLaren teammate and two-time champion Fernando Alonso, as well as Ferrari’s Kimi Raikkonen. The battle for the championship was fierce, with Raikkonen ultimately clinching the title by just a single point—finishing the year on 110 points, narrowly edging Hamilton and Alonso, who both ended with 109.
Another marquee moment from that year was the infamous ‘Spygate’ scandal, where McLaren was disqualified from the Constructors’ Championship after a team employee was found in possession of confidential Ferrari documents.
News of the documentary’s development surfaced via Antonio Lobato, a longtime Formula 1 commentator, who revealed the BBC approached him for comment but he declined to participate. Lobato shared that several other journalists from that period will feature in the film to help tell the story.
While the BBC has yet to make an official announcement or set a release date, anticipation is high for insights and fresh perspectives on one of the most iconic—and controversial—seasons in F1 history.
