The 2025 MotoGP season has been packed with thrills over its first five rounds—but one storyline stands out as the biggest letdown: Pecco Bagnaia’s underwhelming form.
Heading into the season, fans were hyped for a titanic factory Ducati showdown between Marc Marquez and Bagnaia. But so far, it’s been one-sided—Marquez has claimed three Grand Prix wins and swept all five sprint races. Bagnaia, meanwhile, has just one victory and trails championship leader Alex Marquez by 20 points.
After finishing third at the Spanish GP behind Fabio Quartararo and Alex Marquez, Bagnaia admitted he’s struggling with the feel of the new GP25 Ducati, especially compared to the GP24 his rivals are riding.
Crash MotoGP Podcast host Jordan Moreland didn’t hold back:
“Sure, it’s his best start to a season, but he’s clearly not happy. You can tell he’s lost confidence—especially at a track like Jerez where he’s dominated before. He should’ve capitalized when Marc crashed, but he just didn’t show up.”
Crash Senior Journalist Lewis Duncan echoed the sentiment:
“At some point, Pecco needs to stop hiding behind technical excuses. He’s not riding like the world-class double champion we’ve seen in the past. Fans expected a proper fight with Marc Marquez—and so far, we haven’t got it. That’s frustrating, because we know how good Pecco can be.”
With Alex Marquez unexpectedly leading the title charge, Pecco has time to recover—but he’ll need to rediscover his champion’s form quickly if he’s going to live up to pre-season expectations.
