Denmark Open: Rasmus Gemke Stuns Top Seed Vitidsarn in First Round

Rasmus Gemke pulled off a major upset at the VICTOR Denmark Open 2026, rallying from a game down to defeat world No.1 Kunlavut Vitidsarn with a score of 13-21, 21-17, 21-12.

Gemke, ranked No.27 in the world, credited the home crowd for lifting his spirits and fueling his comeback.

“Fantastic feeling winning against the world No.1 on home soil in front of these spectators. The atmosphere was amazing and I’m just really happy and proud,” he shared.

The 29-year-old Dane admitted to early struggles finding his rhythm, but perseverance paid off as he seized momentum when Vitidsarn faltered.

“Somehow I managed to fight my way back into the match and suddenly it started to work for me. He made some errors and I was back in,” Gemke said. “Of course, it’s a big confidence boost after a win like that. Really looking forward to the second round.”

This isn’t Gemke’s first win over Vitidsarn this season—he previously bested the recent Asian Games gold medalist at the China Open in July, also in three hard-fought games.

Gemke now advances to face the winner of the match between Ng Ka Long Angus and Yushi Tanaka in the next round.
