Fabio Quartararo is urging Monster Yamaha to abandon their usual trial-and-error approach as the MotoGP circus arrives in Qatar. The French rider believes that constant setup changes have hindered his ability to ride at his full potential during the first three rounds of the 2025 season.
With that in mind, Quartararo is opting for a more focused and consistent approach this weekend at Lusail—starting with sticking to one base setup from first practice through to race day.
“We’ve already changed the setup twenty times trying to find grip, but it’s not delivering performance,” Quartararo told Speedweek.com. “This time, I want to stay with one base and just make normal, essential adjustments. I don’t want to keep testing the same things across different tracks.”
The 2021 world champion stressed that his priority is to focus more on his own riding instead of chasing mechanical solutions. “Every time we change something, I never find the limit of the bike. So, I don’t want to touch the bike this weekend—just ride and understand the limit.”
Quartararo’s best moment of the season so far came during the COTA Sprint, where he finished sixth and was the top non-Ducati rider. However, a crash on the sighting lap and chaotic conditions during the Grand Prix limited him to tenth.
“[The Sprint] was the first time I really enjoyed myself on the bike this year,” he said. “The race was a mess, but I had a good feeling overall. That’s why this weekend it’s all about focusing on myself and extracting everything from the bike we already have.”
Quartararo remains the most recent non-Ducati rider to win in Qatar, having triumphed during his 2021 title campaign.
