Honda Test Rider Bradl Questions If Jorge Martin Alone Can Save HRC

As Jorge Martin’s contract dispute with Aprilia rumbles on, Honda test rider Stefan Bradl has cast doubt on whether the reigning world champion could single-handedly turn around the Japanese factory’s fortunes if he made the switch in 2026.

While Martin and his manager Albert Valera insist he’s free to leave Aprilia at the end of the season via an exit clause, the Noale manufacturer firmly believes the Spaniard is contractually bound through 2026 — and is even willing to settle the matter in court.

Honda, which has a vacant seat for 2026 with Luca Marini’s contract expiring, is keeping a close watch but won’t make a move until the dispute is fully resolved. Team boss Alberto Puig has made clear that they won’t interfere while Martin’s legal status is unclear.

In an interview with Speedweek, Bradl admitted Martin has the talent to extract more from the struggling Honda bike, but cautioned fans against expecting miracles.

“I do believe that he can get a tenth or two more out of it with his ability and willingness,” Bradl said. “But the fact that he alone will get Honda back on track is another matter.”

Bradl emphasized Honda’s approach to rider negotiations is rooted in respect: “Honda is a loyal partner that does not penetrate where something exists. As long as this is not 100% clarified, Honda will certainly not do anything.”

Should Martin become legally available, Bradl confirmed that HRC would be well-positioned: “If Jorge Martin is a free, available man, then Honda will have done its homework and will be able to offer him something.”

Martin recently returned to MotoGP action with a promising test on the Aprilia RS-GP at Misano, and will make his racing comeback this weekend at Brno — his final appearance before the summer break.

Whether this signals reconciliation with Aprilia or simply a farewell tour before a potential move remains to be seen.
