Jorge Martin Set for Aprilia Debut in Qatar — But Must Proceed with Caution

Reigning MotoGP world champion Jorge Martin is poised to finally make his long-awaited Aprilia debut this weekend at the Qatar Grand Prix — but experts warn both rider and team must approach the return with caution.

Martin, Aprilia’s blockbuster signing for 2025, has yet to race this season after suffering multiple fractures in a crash during Sepang testing, followed by a training incident that sidelined him from the opening three rounds.

Pending a final medical check on Thursday, the Spaniard is expected to suit up for his first race of the year at Lusail. However, expectations should be realistic, according to the Crash MotoGP podcast team.

“It’s great to have the world champion back,” said editor Peter McLaren. “But the big question is fitness. He’s barely had time on this bike, and while he’s strong at Qatar, race distance is a massive ask.”

Jordan Moreland emphasized the mental battle ahead:

“Physically, adrenaline can help. But mentally, it’s just as tough. That’s where Martin’s strength will be tested.”

Crash Senior Journalist Lewis Duncan cautioned Aprilia to take control if needed:

“This should be treated as a three-day test. Don’t expect Q2, don’t expect heroics. If he’s struggling, they must be ready to bench him. If they push too soon, they risk losing him long-term.”

Martin has completed just 13 laps on the Aprilia RS-GP in 2025. With his injuries still fresh — including what Duncan calls a “career-ending type of fracture” — the team must be vigilant.

“Martin is a fighter, but Aprilia must keep him grounded. The goal isn’t results this weekend, it’s rebuilding,” Duncan added.

All eyes will be on Martin when the weekend begins, but the real victory might just be completing laps safely — and starting the road back at his own pace.
