Jorge Martin set for potential MotoGP return at Buriram pre-season test

Jorge Martin is edging closer to a MotoGP comeback, with plans in place to return to action at the final pre-season test in Buriram on February 21–22.

The former world champion saw his debut season with Aprilia severely disrupted by four separate injury setbacks. He also missed the opening pre-season test at Sepang earlier this year while recovering from a discreet follow-up surgery on his wrist and collarbone.

Aprilia has now confirmed that Martin has passed his latest medical examination, clearing the way for him to travel to Thailand with the intention of taking part in the Buriram test.

“Today Jorge Martin underwent a medical check to the left hand and right collarbone at the Hospital Ruber Internacional,” Aprilia said in a statement.

“The medical check was positive, therefore he will travel to Buriram, Thailand, next week to take part in the Buriram Test. Martin will still need to undergo evaluation by the FIM Grand Prix World Championship Medical Team in order to receive official clearance to join the test.”

If he is declared fit by MotoGP’s medical team, the Buriram outing will mark Martin’s first time back on track since the post-season test in Valencia at the end of last year.
