Jorge Martin Undergoes Surgery, to Miss Indonesian MotoGP

Jorge Martin has undergone surgery on his fractured right collarbone, sustained during the Japanese MotoGP Sprint crash at Turn 1 involving teammate Marco Bezzecchi. The Aprilia rider returned to Spain and underwent successful surgery on Tuesday, performed by Dr Xavier Mir’s medical team at Hospital Universitari Dexeus.

Aprilia confirmed Martin will not be replaced for the Indonesian MotoGP, with his recovery timeline to be determined in the coming days. Given his string of injuries this season and low championship standing, doubts remain over his participation in the upcoming Phillip Island and Sepang rounds. Should he miss further races, Aprilia is likely to call on test rider Lorenzo Savadori as a substitute.

Whenever Martin returns, he is expected to face a penalty for causing the incident in Japan, though the FIM Stewards have postponed the hearing until they can speak with him directly. Bezzecchi, meanwhile, managed to finish fourth in Japan despite injuries, losing ground to Francesco Bagnaia in their battle for third in the championship.
