Harry Kane scored twice as Bayern Munich edged past Flamengo 4-2 in a thrilling Club World Cup clash at Hard Rock Stadium, securing a quarter-final showdown with Paris Saint-Germain in Atlanta.
Bayern started fast, opening the scoring in just six minutes when Flamengo’s Erick Pulgar headed Joshua Kimmich’s corner into his own net. Kane then doubled the lead four minutes later with a low strike that took a deflection off Leo Ortiz.
Despite Bayern’s early dominance, Flamengo showed resilience. Luiz Araujo kept Manuel Neuer alert and eventually helped create the goal that brought the Rio giants back into the game, with Gerson blasting home a thunderous finish in the 33rd minute.
However, Flamengo’s comeback was short-lived. A poor clearance from Araujo gifted Leon Goretzka the chance to restore Bayern’s two-goal cushion with a composed long-range strike just before the break.
Flamengo weren’t done. In the 55th minute, they pulled one back from the spot after a handball by Michael Olise, with Jorginho calmly converting the penalty.
Yet Bayern’s efficiency in the final third proved decisive. A slick move initiated by Konrad Laimer and Kimmich ended with Kane rifling in his second goal in the 73rd minute to seal the win.
After the match, Flamengo boss Filipe Luis praised Bayern’s clinical edge:
“At this level, any mistake is fatal. Those who deserved to go through got through.”
Kane acknowledged Flamengo’s fight:
“They made it difficult for us, especially in the second half. That made the fourth goal so important.”
Bayern now turn their attention to a massive clash with PSG for a place in the semi-finals.
