Kone Injury Mars Canada’s Historic World Cup Victory

Canada celebrated a historic first-ever World Cup finals victory with a dominant 6-0 win over Qatar in Vancouver, but the triumph was overshadowed by a serious injury to midfielder Ismael Kone.

The 23-year-old suffered a suspected broken leg following a reckless challenge from Qatar midfielder Assim Madibo, who was sent off in the second half. Qatar had already been reduced to 10 men after defender Homam Ahmed received a red card before halftime.

Despite the setback, Canada produced a memorable performance in front of a packed BC Place crowd. Cyle Larin opened the scoring before Jonathan David led the rout, helping the hosts secure the biggest win of the tournament so far.

With Qatar reduced to nine men, Canada dominated possession and chances throughout the second half, turning the match into a one-sided affair.

The victory sparked jubilant celebrations among home supporters, who witnessed Canada’s first World Cup win and saw the team move to the top of Group B on goal difference ahead of their final group-stage clash against Switzerland.

While the result boosted hopes of a deep tournament run, concern now surrounds Kone’s condition after the midfielder was forced off with what appeared to be a significant injury.
