Levi Colwill Claims Club World Cup Will Surpass Champions League After Chelsea’s Triumph

Chelsea defender Levi Colwill boldly declared the Club World Cup as the future’s top club competition after the Blues dominated Paris Saint-Germain 3-0 in Sunday’s final in New Jersey.

The 22-year-old, celebrating the biggest trophy of his career, believes the revamped 32-team tournament—set to return in 2029—will eclipse the prestige of the Champions League. “This is the biggest trophy I’ve ever won,” said Colwill. “I think the Club World Cup will be bigger than the Champions League, and we’re the first team to win it in this new era.”

Colwill praised the unique experience of facing elite global opponents in sold-out stadiums, adding: “Playing every few days against teams we’d never normally meet was special.” He also highlighted Chelsea’s statement victory over a PSG side that had conceded just one goal before the final.

With confidence soaring, the England international set ambitious targets: “People thought I was crazy for targeting this trophy—now I’m saying the same for the Premier League and Champions League.” Chelsea, two-time UCL winners (2012, 2021), now aim to translate this momentum into domestic and European success.
