Liverpool Extend Lead as Arsenal Stumble Against Forest

Liverpool took a commanding 13-point lead at the top of the Premier League with a 2-0 victory over Newcastle United, while Arsenal’s title hopes suffered another blow after a goalless draw against Nottingham Forest.

Arne Slot’s side continued their dominant form, with goals from Dominik Szoboszlai and Alexis Mac Allister securing the win at Anfield. Szoboszlai opened the scoring in the 11th minute after Luis Díaz set him up, while Mac Allister doubled the lead in the 63rd minute following a Mohamed Salah assist.

Liverpool have now navigated a tough run of fixtures, including a draw at Aston Villa and wins against Manchester City and Newcastle. With just 10 games left, only a major collapse can deny them their 20th English league title.

“The desire to win trophies is driving us on,” Mac Allister said. “We know this season we have a real opportunity, so we’re working hard to keep it going.”

Meanwhile, Arsenal’s frustrating draw at Forest, coming after their defeat to West Ham last weekend, further dented their title chances. While Mikel Arteta insists his team won’t give up, the gap to Liverpool now looks daunting.

Liverpool sit on 67 points from 28 games, while Arsenal have 54 with a game in hand.

Elsewhere in the Premier League:

  • Manchester City climbed back into the top four after Erling Haaland’s early goal secured a 1-0 win at Tottenham. Haaland became only the second player to score 20+ goals in each of his first three Premier League seasons, joining Ruud van Nistelrooy.
  • Manchester United edged a thrilling 3-2 win over Ipswich Town despite playing with 10 men. Harry Maguire’s late goal secured the victory, deepening Ipswich’s relegation struggles.
  • Everton extended their unbeaten run under David Moyes to seven games after a 1-1 draw at Brentford, with Jake O’Brien scoring his first goal for the club.

With Liverpool now in full control of the title race, the pressure is on their rivals to keep up as the season enters its final stretch.
