Liverpool are edging closer to a record-equalling 20th English league title as they prepare to face Fulham on Sunday. After back-to-back disappointments in the Champions League and League Cup, the Reds bounced back with a narrow 1-0 win over Everton, courtesy of Diogo Jota’s goal.
Captain Virgil van Dijk has urged his teammates to stay focused and outwork their remaining opponents. “There are eight games left and a 12-point lead. We have to fight. If we don’t out-work teams, we won’t get results,” he said.
Meanwhile, Manchester City are gearing up for a crucial derby against rivals Manchester United. With Champions League qualification on the line, winger Jack Grealish is eager to prove himself if given the chance to start. The 29-year-old netted in City’s 2-0 win over Leicester on Wednesday, marking his first league goal since 2023. “I’m ready when called upon,” said Grealish, who also wants revenge for City’s earlier 2-1 defeat to United this season.
With Erling Haaland sidelined due to injury, City need players like Grealish to step up in the season’s final stretch.
At the other end of the table, Southampton are staring relegation in the face. A 1-1 draw with Crystal Palace midweek means the Saints remain 19 points adrift of safety. They could be officially relegated this weekend if they lose to Tottenham and Wolves beat Ipswich.
Defender Taylor Harwood-Bellis remains defiant. “We just wanted to put in a performance that the fans can be proud of. There have been times this season where the quality hasn’t been good enough,” he admitted.
Southampton are also close to matching the lowest-ever Premier League points tally — Derby County’s 11-point total from 2007-08.
