Colombia coach Néstor Lorenzo believes his side’s tactical flexibility will be crucial when they face Switzerland in the FIFA World Cup Round of 16.
Unbeaten so far and having conceded just one goal in the tournament, Colombia have impressed with their ability to adapt during matches, thanks to players who can seamlessly switch roles and respond to different situations.
“We have players who understand the game. They know how to read different moments, and that versatility allows the team to grow.”
Lorenzo also acknowledged the challenge of travelling across North America throughout the tournament, with Colombia playing in multiple cities across three host nations under varying weather and altitude conditions.
“It’s not ideal to travel so much, but we knew it would be like this. We just have to adapt and give our best.”
Looking ahead, Lorenzo expects a difficult test against a well-drilled Swiss side led by Murat Yakin.
“They are organised in attack and defence, have experienced players competing in top European leagues, and will be a very tough opponent.”
Colombia will aim to continue their unbeaten run as they battle Switzerland for a place in the World Cup quarter-finals.
