Lorenzo urges Bagnaia to seek sports psychologist to regain confidence

Three-time MotoGP world champion Jorge Lorenzo believes Pecco Bagnaia should work with a sports psychologist to overcome the slump that derailed his 2025 season.

After a dominant 2024 campaign featuring 11 victories and a close title fight, Bagnaia was expected to challenge Marc Marquez strongly within Ducati. Instead, he struggled from the start of the year with a lack of confidence in the GP25’s front-end feel, leading to inconsistent performances.

Bagnaia managed only two wins in 2025 and failed to score in the last five races, eventually finishing fifth in the standings—257 points behind champion Marquez. Despite multiple setup changes, neither Ducati nor Bagnaia could pinpoint a clear cause for his difficulties.

Lorenzo suggested that mental support could help Bagnaia recover the self-belief he has lost.

According to Lorenzo, Bagnaia began the season in an ideal situation as a two-time champion on an Italian bike within an Italian team, but Marquez’s immediate pace negatively affected his confidence and enthusiasm. Lorenzo believes a sports psychologist, coaching support, or guidance from figures like Valentino Rossi could help him regain a positive mindset.

Lorenzo noted that many top riders, including himself and Andrea Dovizioso, have turned to sports psychologists at key moments in their careers, leading to improved outlook and performance. He stressed that Bagnaia needs to be open to seeking help to rediscover his motivation and restore his competitive edge.
