Paris Saint-Germain manager Luis Enrique hailed his team’s dominant performance as they demolished Brest 7-0 on Wednesday, securing their place in the Champions League last 16 with a resounding 10-0 aggregate victory.
The French champions made history by becoming the first team to have seven different goalscorers in a single Champions League match. Luis Enrique credited this feat to the team’s unselfish play and strong mentality.
“Having seven different goalscorers is a reflection of our team spirit,” Enrique told reporters. “The players made the right choices in front of goal, always looking for the best-placed teammate rather than taking shots for themselves. If they had been selfish, we would have scored fewer goals. This is the perfect way to move forward.”
Despite the one-sided scoreline, Enrique praised Brest, calling them one of the best teams in France and acknowledging their strong Champions League campaign. “Games like these can be dangerous if you lose focus, but we stayed disciplined and respected our opponents,” he said.
PSG now prepare for a tougher challenge in the next round, where they will face either Liverpool or Barcelona. Enrique believes his team is ready. “We should have qualified directly for the last 16, but taking the longer route has made us stronger. No opponent will be more difficult than the ones we’ve already faced,” he added.
