Marc Marquez Calls British GP Crash “Like a Water Park” After Lucky Restart

Marc Marquez described his crash during the initial start of the British Grand Prix as feeling “like a water park,” after an unusual incident saw him slide into a foam block at the Becketts chicane.

The Ducati Lenovo Team rider lost control and hit one of the foam barriers designed to slow down riders who run wide before rejoining the track at Chapel. Despite the impact, Marquez downplayed the severity of the crash.

“It was like a water park,” Marquez joked in the post-race press conference. “I was sliding but saw a wall. I knew it was soft. When I saw the impact, you need to be strong. It was after a crash, but this moment is not scary. You know that you will stop.”

Marquez’s luck turned when the red flag was waved moments later due to a separate incident involving Franco Morbidelli and Aleix Espargaro, which caused fluid to spill on the circuit. Since the stoppage occurred before the end of lap three, the race was restarted in full—allowing Marquez to rejoin the grid despite his crash.

“I was the luckiest rider today because the red flag gave me a second chance,” he admitted.

Although he went on to finish on the podium, Marquez wasn’t satisfied with how the second part of the race unfolded, revealing that a tyre change negatively affected his performance.

“I don’t know why, but we changed tyres in the second race. The feeling in the second race was a disaster,” he said.
