Marc Marquez extended his dominant run to 11 consecutive wins by triumphing in the Austrian MotoGP Sprint, marking his first-ever victory at the Red Bull Ring. Starting from fourth, the Spaniard quickly moved into second behind his brother Alex before making a decisive pass with five laps remaining. It was his 12th Sprint win in 13 starts.
Pedro Acosta fought his way from seventh to secure a podium for KTM, while surprise pole-sitter Marco Bezzecchi slipped to fourth but challenged hard in the closing laps.
Francesco Bagnaia’s hopes of a sixth straight Red Bull Ring win ended dramatically as wheelspin at the start dropped him to 14th before a worsening issue with his Ducati forced him to retire mid-race, reportedly due to tyre problems. Raul Fernandez also failed to finish after a rear ride height malfunction.
All riders opted for medium fronts and soft rears except Johann Zarco, who gambled on a medium rear. Meanwhile, Maverick Vinales skipped the Sprint to protect his shoulder, and LCR Honda’s Somkiat Chantra remained sidelined post-surgery.
Marc Marquez’s win finally ended his Red Bull Ring drought, leaving only Portimao, Indonesia, and Buddh as tracks where he has yet to claim a MotoGP victory.
