Marc Marquez Claims Pole at COTA, Keeps 2025 Streak Alive

Marc Marquez continued his perfect qualifying streak in the 2025 MotoGP season by claiming his third consecutive pole position at the Americas Grand Prix. This marks his eighth career pole at the Circuit of the Americas, where he aims to secure his eighth race victory on Sunday.

Before that, Marquez will look to extend his unbeaten record as a factory Ducati rider to five consecutive race wins in the afternoon’s Sprint race.

Although his younger brother Alex briefly snatched pole, Marc responded with a blistering 2m01.088s to reclaim the top spot.

Fabio di Giannantonio was later reinstated to second place after his best lap, originally canceled due to yellow flags from a Joan Mir crash, was restored. Race stewards determined the Italian had no time to react to the flag.

As a result, Pedro Acosta was bumped to the second row, where he will line up alongside VR46’s Franco Morbidelli and Marc Marquez’s team-mate, Francesco Bagnaia.

Honda’s Luca Marini and Yamaha’s Fabio Quartararo advanced from Qualifying 1, which was temporarily red-flagged to repair an air fence following a heavy crash by Raul Fernandez at Turn 10.

Marini would go on to outpace team-mate Joan Mir for seventh place on the grid. Jack Miller rounded out the third row for Pramac Yamaha.

Aprilia’s Marco Bezzecchi, Yamaha’s Alex Rins, and LCR’s Johann Zarco were among the notable names who failed to progress to Q2.

Most riders opted for new medium front and soft rear tyres during the session.

Reigning champion Jorge Martin, still recovering from injury, attended COTA as a spectator and is expected to make a possible Aprilia debut in Qatar. Lorenzo Savadori continues to stand in for him at Aprilia, while Yamaha test rider Augusto Fernandez makes his MotoGP debut as a replacement for the injured Miguel Oliveira.

Maverick Vinales, who claimed a double victory for Aprilia at COTA last year—the last time Ducati was defeated—will also be in the mix as the 10-lap Sprint race kicks off at 3PM local time.
