Marc Marquez sealed the 2025 MotoGP world championship at Motegi after finishing second in the Japanese Grand Prix, behind Ducati teammate Francesco Bagnaia.
The victory marks Marquez’s first title since 2019, ending a six-year wait filled with injury setbacks and surgeries. After battling through four major operations and uncompetitive machinery at Honda, Marquez rebuilt his career with Gresini Ducati in 2024 before securing a factory Ducati ride this season.
The Spaniard has dominated the 2025 campaign, winning 11 grands prix and 14 sprints in 17 rounds, clinching the crown with a commanding 201-point lead. He now ties Valentino Rossi on seven premier-class titles, one short of Giacomo Agostini’s all-time record.
Starting from third on the grid, Marquez overtook Pedro Acosta to secure second, while Bagnaia managed late mechanical concerns to take victory. Joan Mir completed the podium for Honda.
With this triumph, Marquez becomes Ducati’s fourth MotoGP world champion, joining Casey Stoner, Bagnaia, and Jorge Martin.
