Marc Marquez Reflects on British MotoGP Crash: “I Was Angry, But Also the Luckiest”

Marc Marquez admitted he was both frustrated and fortunate after crashing during the initial phase of the British MotoGP, only to be given a second chance when a red flag halted the race.

Marquez had made a strong start at Silverstone, seizing the lead early after his brother, Alex Marquez, went down at Turn 1. By the middle of the second lap, Marc had built up a lead of over a second—only to crash at Turn 11.

“Today, the Marquez family were the luckiest,” Marc said after the race. “We made a mistake in the first race. I was quite angry, because the feeling was amazing before the crash.”

The red flag came out shortly after, triggered by an oil spill on track, allowing riders—including both Marquez brothers—to restart the race.

Marc clarified that his crash wasn’t due to a major error in judgment, unlike his earlier crashes this season at Austin or Jerez.

“It was a completely different mistake,” he explained. “It was windy, and maybe I didn’t take that into account. I didn’t do anything strange. I crashed on Friday using a medium front tyre, and although the feeling wasn’t great, I didn’t want to switch to a soft front due to my riding style.”

Reflecting on the restart, Marquez said it wasn’t fair to pin the difference in performance on one factor alone.

“I don’t want to say it was the tyres. I don’t want to say it was the bike. I don’t want to say it was me. We need to analyse it. We changed the bike and the tyres, and I was coming from a crash, so maybe I was more tense, and the bike didn’t turn as well.”

After dropping positions in the restarted race, Marquez focused on damage control.

“I made a second mistake and fell back, but I tried to minimise the drama. When I saw I was ahead of Alex and Pecco, I decided to manage the race and just bring the bike home.”

He also pointed out the challenging wind conditions at Turn 11:
“The gust was super difficult. I need to work on my mistakes.”

Despite the setbacks, Marquez salvaged a podium finish with third place, capitalizing on the restart to remain in championship contention.
