Marc Marquez claimed his 100th career pole position in stunning fashion at the 2025 Italian MotoGP, setting a new lap record at Mugello and narrowly edging out Ducati teammate Pecco Bagnaia.
The Ducati star clocked a 1m44.169s on his final flying lap in Q2 to seal pole by just 0.059s, marking his sixth pole of the season and his 72nd in the premier class. Bagnaia, showing strong form throughout the weekend, kept the pressure on but had to settle for second.
Alex Marquez completed a Ducati front-row lockout, just 0.083s behind his older brother. All three front-row riders dipped under the previous lap record.
Despite a shoulder injury suffered on Friday, Yamaha’s Fabio Quartararo showed impressive grit to qualify fourth, briefly holding provisional pole before being bumped down by the Ducati duo. He will start from the head of the second row.
Maverick Vinales, fast throughout practice, qualified fifth for KTM, while Franco Morbidelli dropped to sixth after an early front-row challenge on the VR46 Ducati.
Fabio Di Giannantonio took seventh, with Pedro Acosta eighth on the factory KTM. Alex Rins, despite a late incident where he impeded Marquez, qualified ninth for Yamaha.
Marco Bezzecchi rounded out the top 10 on the Aprilia. Q1 graduates Raul Fernandez and Fermin Aldeguer secured 11th and 12th, respectively.
Just missing out on Q2 was Jack Miller, who will start 13th for Pramac Yamaha, followed by Johann Zarco (14th), Brad Binder (15th), and Enea Bastianini (16th).
The rest of the grid features Miguel Oliveira, Joan Mir, Takaaki Nakagami, Lorenzo Savadori, Ai Ogura, and Somkiat Chantra.
