MotoGP 2025 continues to draw massive attention, largely due to Marc Marquez’s phenomenal performance with Ducati Lenovo. However, not everyone sees his dominance as a positive development. Former world champion and MotoGP legend Kevin Schwantz believes Marquez’s superiority is making the current season less exciting.
Schwantz, the 1993 world champion, voiced his concerns openly. He stated that Marquez’s overwhelming presence on the track leaves little room for other riders to compete. According to him, Marquez’s current form is reminiscent of his prime years with Repsol Honda.
“What we’re seeing from Marc Marquez now is exactly what we saw when he was at Honda before the injury. He has the ability to make races very dull,” Schwantz told Motosan on Friday, June 13, 2025.
Marquez has been nearly flawless over the first eight rounds of the 2025 MotoGP season. The 32-year-old has claimed four Grand Prix victories and six Sprint Race wins, placing him at the top of the championship standings with 233 points.
He currently leads the title race by 32 points ahead of his younger brother, Alex Marquez, who rides for Gresini Ducati. The Marquez brothers’ stronghold on the standings has raised concerns about limited opportunities for other teams to shine.
Despite the criticism, Schwantz emphasized that the solution isn’t to blame Marc Marquez, but rather for other riders to step up their game. He believes the only way to challenge Marquez is through hard work and better race strategy from his competitors.
“No one can do anything unless the other riders improve themselves and figure out what Marc is doing better than them,” Schwantz stated in a pointed message to the MotoGP paddock.
