Marc Marquez Tops Austrian GP Friday Practice Despite Mid-Session Drama

Marc Marquez set the pace in Friday’s afternoon practice for the 2025 Austrian MotoGP at the Red Bull Ring, securing a clean sweep of both sessions. The title leader, still seeking his first win at the venue, initially towed Pedro Acosta to the top spot before beating the KTM rider by 0.228s.

Francesco Bagnaia and Alex Marquez completed the top four, with Raul Fernandez impressing as the fastest Aprilia in fifth ahead of Honda’s Joan Mir. The rest of the top ten—and direct Q2 qualifiers—included Franco Morbidelli, Johann Zarco, Fermin Aldeguer, and Brad Binder.

Fabio Quartararo, Marco Bezzecchi, and Jorge Martin missed the cut, with the session halted midway to clean fluid and repair an air fence after Quartararo’s crash. Miguel Oliveira went down shortly after at the same corner, but replays suggested smoke from Jack Miller’s Yamaha may have contributed to both incidents, leading to the cancellation of Oliveira’s yellow flag investigation.

Reigning champion Martin also escaped unhurt from a high-speed fall at Turn 9, while Maverick Vinales, returning from injury, spent most of the session in the pits and remains uncertain for Saturday action.
