Marc Marquez Wins Spanish MotoGP Sprint as Fabio Quartararo Crashes Out

Marc Marquez strengthened his MotoGP championship lead after claiming a dominant sprint race victory at the 2025 Spanish Grand Prix, while polesitter Fabio Quartararo crashed out.

Although Quartararo ended Marquez’s perfect qualifying record earlier in the day by taking pole for Yamaha, his hopes of a sprint win vanished on lap two. Marquez initially lost the lead at Turn 1 but quickly retaliated at Turn 6, passing Quartararo as the Yamaha rider crashed trying to defend.

Marquez, riding the factory Ducati, built a steady lead from there, finishing just over a second ahead of his brother, Alex Marquez, on the Gresini GP24 Ducati. With this victory, Marc Marquez extended his points lead to 20.

Pecco Bagnaia completed the podium but now trails by 31 points heading into Sunday’s 25-lap grand prix.

Marquez’s sprint win marks his fifth consecutive half-distance race victory in 2025, making him the first rider to achieve five straight sprint wins in the MotoGP era.

Alex Marquez finished 2.076 seconds ahead of Bagnaia to maintain his own streak of sprint podiums, while Franco Morbidelli placed fourth for VR46 Ducati, followed by Fermin Aldeguer on the second Gresini Ducati. Fabio Di Giannantonio completed an all-Ducati top six on the second VR46 machine.

Maverick Vinales was the highest-placed non-Ducati rider in seventh for Tech3 KTM, with Marco Bezzecchi eighth for Aprilia and Joan Mir securing the final point in ninth for the factory Honda.

Pedro Acosta and Brad Binder finished 10th and 11th for KTM, while Alex Rins recovered to 15th after a difficult morning that included two crashes. Aleix Espargaro, making a wildcard appearance for Honda, finished 18th.

Jack Miller (Pramac Yamaha) and Johann Zarco (LCR Honda) both crashed out on lap five.
