Marco Bezzecchi Set to Race in Australia as Aprilia Targets Beating Marc Marquez in 2026

Aprilia Racing CEO Massimo Rivola has confirmed that Marco Bezzecchi will be fit to race at this weekend’s Australian MotoGP following his dramatic collision with Marc Marquez in Indonesia.

Bezzecchi, who won the sprint race at Mandalika, was sent to hospital for precautionary scans after crashing heavily in the gravel when he clipped the back of Marquez on the opening lap. The impact left Marquez with a fractured collarbone and ligament damage, ruling the Ducati star out of the next two rounds at Phillip Island and Sepang.

Rivola told SkySport.it that Bezzecchi will return to the grid in Australia, where he is expected to serve a yet-to-be-announced penalty for causing the Mandalika incident. However, it remains uncertain if his Aprilia teammate Jorge Martin will be fit to join him after breaking his collarbone in Japan.

If Martin is sidelined, all three riders from last year’s Phillip Island front row – Martin, Marquez, and Maverick Viñales – will be missing.

“Bezzecchi will be in Australia, but it’s still too early to set a return date for Martin,” Rivola said.

Bezzecchi currently sits just 20 points behind Francesco Bagnaia in the fight for third in the riders’ championship, while Aprilia holds a 28-point cushion over KTM in the constructors’ standings.

“Marco deserves third place in the world championship, and Aprilia deserves second in the manufacturers’ championship. We need to end 2025 strongly,” Rivola added.

Looking ahead to 2026, Rivola believes the new Aprilia lineup of Bezzecchi and Martin has what it takes to challenge Marquez and Ducati for the MotoGP crown.

“I can’t wait. I’m optimistic. With two riders like this, I expect to be fighting for the podium every Sunday,” Rivola said. “And I repeat — we can beat Marc Marquez.”
