MotoGP Champion Jorge Martin to Miss Thailand Grand Prix Due to Injury

Defending MotoGP champion Jorge Martin will miss the season-opening Thailand Grand Prix after suffering multiple fractures in a training accident, Aprilia Racing confirmed on Monday.

The 27-year-old Spaniard fractured his left foot and sustained a triple fracture in his left hand. He is set to undergo surgery on Tuesday at Barcelona’s Dexeus Clinic, after which his recovery timeline will be assessed.

“Jorge Martin suffered a complex fracture of the radius, some carpal bones on the left side, and an ipsilateral calcaneal fracture during a training session,” Aprilia said in a statement.

This setback follows a previous surgery earlier this month after Martin broke his right hand and foot in a crash at Sepang, Malaysia. Reports indicate he was close to receiving medical clearance for Thailand before his latest accident at the Menargues karting circuit in Spain.

Aprilia test rider Lorenzo Savadori will step in to replace Martin at the Chang International Circuit.
