Germany international Malick Thiaw has completed a permanent transfer to Premier League side Newcastle United from AC Milan.
The 24-year-old centre-back signed a long-term contract for a reported initial fee of 35 million euros (US$40 million). Thiaw expressed excitement about joining the club, praising Newcastle’s size, passionate fan base, and manager Eddie Howe’s vision for his role in the team.
Thiaw, capped three times for Germany, joined AC Milan from Schalke 04 in 2022, making 85 appearances across all competitions. He is Newcastle’s third summer signing following Anthony Elanga from Nottingham Forest and goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale from Southampton.
Manager Howe highlighted Thiaw’s Champions League experience and his valuable background in both the Bundesliga and Serie A, noting the defender’s potential to strengthen their backline as Newcastle returns to European competition.
The Magpies, who finished fifth in last season’s Premier League, will start their new campaign away to Aston Villa on Saturday.
