Official: Fermin Aldeguer to miss 2026 Sepang MotoGP test after injury setback

Fermin Aldeguer has been officially ruled out of the upcoming Sepang MotoGP test as he continues his recovery from injury.

The Gresini Ducati rider fractured his left femur during a training session at the Aspar circuit in Valencia on January 8 and underwent surgery in Barcelona the following day. While no detailed recovery timeline has been announced, it has now been confirmed that Aldeguer will not take part in the three-day pre-season test in Malaysia.

A video released by the team showed Gresini team manager Michele Masini and crew chief Frankie Carchedi paying a surprise visit to Aldeguer at his home following the confirmation.

Aldeguer’s only remaining opportunity for pre-season track time on the Ducati GP25 would be the Buriram test on February 21–22, just one week before the opening round of the season in Thailand. However, his physiotherapist has indicated that being fully fit for pre-season testing is unlikely, with the focus now on preparing him for the first race of the year.

The young Spaniard impressed in his rookie MotoGP season, finishing eighth overall. He secured three Grand Prix podiums, including victories at Mandalika, as well as three Sprint race rostrums.

Gresini is scheduled to unveil its 2026 MotoGP livery for Aldeguer and team-mate Alex Marquez in Malaysia on January 31. Marquez, who ended last season as championship runner-up, will compete on factory-spec Ducati machinery this year.

Aprilia rider Jorge Martin is also expected to miss the Sepang test as he continues recovery from follow-up surgery on the collarbone injury he sustained at last year’s Japanese Grand Prix.
