Pramac Yamaha owner Paolo Campinoti believes Marc Marquez is the “last person” Valentino Rossi would want to see win this year’s MotoGP championship. If Marquez claims the 2025 title, he will equal Rossi’s nine World Championships and match his seven premier class crowns.
Marquez, who dominated the opening round in Thailand, is expected to face stiff competition from his Ducati teammate Francesco Bagnaia—a member of Rossi’s VR46 Riders Academy since 2014.
Campinoti described the lingering tension between Rossi and Marquez as a “cold war” and acknowledged that Marquez’s potential success is an “open wound” for Rossi.
Regarding the title race, Campinoti sees it as a close battle between Marquez and Bagnaia, highlighting Marquez’s aggressive nature and Bagnaia’s quiet but exceptional talent.
He also revealed that Ducati’s decision to choose Marquez over Jorge Martin influenced his choice to move Pramac Racing from Ducati to Yamaha, emphasizing his preference for nurturing young talent and feeling overlooked within Ducati’s structure.
