Pistons Acquire Veteran Guard Dennis Schröder in Trade

The Detroit Pistons have announced a trade for veteran guard Dennis Schröder from the Utah Jazz, sending K.J. Martin along with a draft pick to Utah. In what marks yet another move for Schröder this season, he is now set to join the Detroit Pistons.

The Golden State Warriors have officially traded Schröder to the Pistons, who also received Lindy Waters III and a second-round draft pick from Golden State. The Pistons described the transaction as part of a “series of moves,” linked to the major trade that involved Jimmy Butler moving from Miami to Golden State. As part of this trade, K.J. Martin, who was previously acquired by Detroit from Philadelphia, is being sent to Utah along with a second-round pick.

This marks the eighth NBA team for Schröder and the third team he has played for this season. He initially began the 2024-25 season with the Brooklyn Nets, was then traded to the Golden State Warriors on December 15, and recently moved to the Jazz in the Butler trade. This season, Schröder is averaging 14.4 points, 2.6 rebounds, and 5.5 assists. He will serve as the backup to All-Star guard Cade Cunningham in Detroit, similar to his previous role behind All-Star Stephen Curry in Golden State. The Pistons, currently at 25-26, are actively competing for a playoff spot in the Eastern Conference, sitting just one game behind the Miami Heat for the No. 6 seed.

K.J. Martin has been a consistent part of the 76ers’ rotation, averaging 6.4 points and 3 rebounds per game, with shooting percentages of 61.6% overall and 38.1% from beyond the arc. In Utah, he will join a frontcourt featuring former All-Star Lauri Markkanen, John Collins, Svi Mykhailiuk, and Brice Sensabaugh.
