Postecoglou vows to restore Nottingham Forest to “rightful place”

New Nottingham Forest head coach Ange Postecoglou says he is humbled by the opportunity and determined to guide the club back to its “rightful place” in English football.

The 60-year-old Australian, who replaced Nuno Espirito Santo after his dismissal on Tuesday, arrives at the City Ground following a turbulent end to his spell at Tottenham. Postecoglou won the Europa League with Spurs in May but was sacked weeks later after a 17th-place Premier League finish.

Speaking to Forest TV ahead of Saturday’s clash with Arsenal, Postecoglou expressed excitement about the club’s ambitions. “I’m really happy to be here. This club has real ambitions, and that’s important to me. We’ve got an exciting squad,” he said.

Forest, European champions in 1979 and 1980, will return to continental competition this season, featuring in the Europa League for the first time in 30 years.

“Other promoted clubs have struggled to stay up, but in a short time we’re back in Europe and competing for honours. That’s a great credit to everyone involved,” Postecoglou added. “The club wants more, and so do I. I’m determined to ensure this club takes its rightful place.”
