PSG and Chelsea to battle for Club World Cup title in US showdown

Paris Saint-Germain and Chelsea are set to clash in the final of FIFA’s newly expanded 32-team Club World Cup this Sunday in New Jersey, wrapping up a month-long tournament in the United States. The competition, designed to revolutionize club football and serve as a prelude to the 2026 World Cup, has delivered both surprises and intensity.

PSG have been dominant throughout the tournament, winning seven of their last eight matches without conceding a single goal. Luis Enrique’s side overwhelmed Real Madrid 4-0 in the semi-finals with a relentless high-pressing style that forced two turnovers and two goals within the first nine minutes.

Coming off their first Champions League title, PSG are aiming to capture their maiden world crown. Their youthful, high-energy squad has flourished under Enrique’s leadership, with standouts including Ousmane Dembele in attack, Vitinha in midfield, and fullbacks Achraf Hakimi and Nuno Mendes providing attacking width. Defensively, PSG have maintained impressive pressure, averaging seven turnovers per hour.

Luis Enrique, who won the treble with Barcelona a decade ago, has an unblemished record in club finals, winning all 11 he has contested.

Chelsea, on the other hand, reached the final through a less straightforward route. After a challenging Premier League season, they qualified via the Conference League and have shown resilience in the US.

Joao Pedro, a mid-tournament addition, has made a huge impact, scoring twice in their 2-0 semi-final win over Fluminense. His partnership with Cole Palmer has given Chelsea’s attack new life. Meanwhile, the midfield trio of Enzo Fernandez, Romeo Lavia, and Moises Caicedo has been effective in controlling games and creating opportunities.

The final at MetLife Stadium, expected to be played in extreme heat, will determine which European powerhouse claims the historic first title of FIFA’s revamped global club competition.
