Every year on April 6, the world unites to celebrate the International Day of Sport for Development and Peace (IDSDP), recognising sport’s unique role in promoting inclusion, unity, and global harmony. Central to this occasion is the #WhiteCard campaign by Peace and Sport—a global symbol of peace and a powerful reminder that sport can be a catalyst for positive change.
The Badminton World Federation (BWF) proudly stands behind this initiative, continuing its support since 2019 when President Poul-Erik Høyer joined the global badminton community in raising the #WhiteCard. This year, BWF reaffirmed its commitment by organising a Shuttle Time Teachers Course at Tunku Abdul Rahman University of Management and Technology (TAR UMT) in Kuala Lumpur, in partnership with HAIER SEA and TAR UMT. The programme brought together 14 participants from diverse backgrounds, including students, staff, youth groups, and educators.
Further showing its dedication, BWF hosted a coaching clinic on March 8 at TAR UMT, which welcomed 64 children from local shelters and learning centres, offering them a day of learning, engagement, and joy through badminton.
This year’s #WhiteCard campaign sheds light on a pressing global issue—the 460 million children living in conflict zones. With disrupted education and limited access to safe spaces, these children face unimaginable challenges. Sport, however, remains a beacon of hope. It promotes resilience, encourages inclusion, and teaches vital life skills that can shape a brighter future.
As the global community raises #WhiteCards this April 6, BWF invites everyone to join the movement and stand in solidarity with children affected by conflict. Let us continue to use the power of sport to create peace, inspire hope, and ensure that every child has the chance to grow, play, and thrive—no matter their circumstances.
