Scotland Qualify for First World Cup Since 1998 After Dramatic Win Over Denmark

Scotland secured a place at the World Cup finals for the first time since 1998 after a remarkable 4-2 victory over Denmark, scoring twice in stoppage time on an unforgettable night at Hampden Park.

Substitute Kieran Tierney restored Scotland’s lead in the 93rd minute with a powerful strike from outside the box. Moments later, Kenny McLean sealed the victory with a stunning effort from the halfway line over Kasper Schmeichel.

Scotland finished top of Group C with 13 points, two ahead of Denmark. The victory ensures Steve Clarke’s team will compete at next year’s World Cup in Canada, Mexico and the United States. Denmark, needing only a draw to qualify automatically, must now go through the play-offs.

Clarke praised his squad’s resilience and the quality of their goals, calling Scott McTominay’s third-minute overhead kick the best he has ever seen. The Napoli midfielder’s acrobatic effort gave Scotland an early advantage before Rasmus Hojlund equalised from the penalty spot in the second half.

Denmark were reduced to 10 men shortly after, allowing Scotland to regain control. Lawrence Shankland put the hosts ahead from a corner, but Patrick Dorgu levelled again for the visitors before Scotland’s late surge sealed the win.

Captain Andy Robertson said the dramatic performance reflected the spirit of the squad, noting the emotional weight of reaching the World Cup after nearly three decades.
