Liverpool manager Arne Slot is looking to Mohamed Salah for inspiration as the club aims for a strong finish to the season. Salah, who recently announced his departure at the end of the campaign after nine years and 255 goals for Liverpool, has been hailed by Slot as a true club “legend.”
Despite a public disagreement in December—when Salah expressed he had “no relationship” with Slot after being left out of the starting lineup for three games—the Egyptian has returned to regular action since returning from the Africa Cup of Nations in January. Salah remains central to Liverpool’s hopes as they face a challenging season, currently sitting fifth in the Premier League and battling for a Champions League spot.
Slot remains optimistic about Liverpool’s prospects in both the FA Cup and Champions League. The Reds travel to Manchester City for an FA Cup quarter-final clash on Saturday and will soon take on Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League quarter-finals.
“Hopefully he can make his legacy even more special in the upcoming weeks and months where we still play for something significant, but he will always leave this club as a legend,” Slot told Liverpool’s official website. “His hunger, professionalism, and relentless commitment to the team stand out above all else.”
Slot’s attacking options have been limited by the long-term injury to Alexander Isak, who joined Liverpool last September for a record £125 million. The Swedish striker is set to return to training after recovering from a broken leg and was recently lifted by Sweden’s World Cup qualification.
“Alex is in a really good place after Sweden qualified for the World Cup,” Slot said on Wednesday. “He’s going to train with the group for the first time tomorrow. It’s only his first session after a long absence, but it’s great to have him back. We know we’ve signed an exceptional striker.”
With Salah’s farewell tour underway and Isak returning to fitness, Slot hopes Liverpool can end the season with silverware and secure their place in next season’s Champions League.
