Son Heung-min Agrees Record-Breaking Move to LAFC

Son Heung-min is set to join Los Angeles FC after the Major League Soccer club agreed a deal with Tottenham Hotspur worth around US$26 million, according to multiple reports. The fee would surpass the MLS transfer record of US$22 million paid by Atlanta United for Emmanuel Latte Lath last offseason.

The 33-year-old South Korea captain announced over the weekend that he would leave Tottenham after 10 seasons, saying he had achieved all he could in North London and was ready for a new challenge. His farewell match came in a 1-1 friendly draw against Newcastle United in Seoul, where he received a standing ovation and a guard of honor.

Son leaves Spurs with 172 goals and 94 assists in 451 appearances across all competitions, including 127 Premier League goals. He captained the club to their first major trophy of his career — the 2025 Europa League title.

Before his time in England, Son played in the Bundesliga with Hamburger SV and Bayer Leverkusen. Internationally, he has scored 51 goals in 134 appearances for South Korea, making him the nation’s second-highest all-time scorer, and has represented his country in three World Cups.

At LAFC, Son will join a playoff-chasing side currently sitting sixth in the Western Conference (10-6-6, 36 points). The club also announced the signing of defender Ryan Porteous from Watford on Monday.
